Students in Himachal Can Now Access Playgrounds After Closing Time: Officials

The education department in Himachal Pradesh has announced that students attending government schools and colleges will now have access to playgrounds even after the regular closing time of their institutions. According to a spokesperson from the department, this measure has been implemented by the state government to allow extended use of school and college grounds beyond official hours. The primary objective of this initiative is to provide sporting opportunities to students and promote a healthier balance between their digital and physical lives.
Currently, the state has more than 15,000 government schools and approximately 150 government degree colleges, which typically close by 5 pm. Under the new provision, only enrolled students from these respective educational institutions will be allowed to utilize the playgrounds for sports activities. By granting access to school and college playgrounds, the government aims to redirect students' attention away from the addictive allure of cell phones and encourage them to engage in more physically engaging pursuits.
The statement from the education department highlighted the adverse effects of excessive screen time and cell phone dependency among students, which can lead to sedentary behavior and negatively impact their physical health, social interactions, and personal growth. Engaging in sports activities not only improves physical fitness but also fosters essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, resilience, and leadership. Furthermore, it promotes social interactions, enhances well-being, and serves as a preventive measure against the involvement of youth in drug-related issues.
In summary, the recent decision by the education department in Himachal Pradesh allows students to access playgrounds outside of regular school hours. This initiative aims to provide sports opportunities, balance digital and physical lives, and combat issues associated with excessive cell phone use. By engaging in sports activities, students can improve their physical fitness, develop important life skills, foster social interactions, and stay away from negative influences.
