Schools In Maharashtra’s Raigad, Chandrapur To Remain Closed Today Due To Severe Rainfall

Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, has declared the closure of all schools in regions of the state that have been severely affected by heavy rainfall today, July 20. However, the final decision on school closures will be determined by the local government based on the weather conditions in each region.
Due to the relentless downpour, all schools and higher education institutions in Raigad and Chandrapur districts of Maharashtra will remain closed today. This step has been taken to ensure the safety of students and educational institutions amidst the heavy rains. Raigad District Collector Yogesh Mhase and Chandrapur District Collector Vinay Gowda have both announced holidays in their respective districts to address the situation.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Palghar and Raigad districts and an orange alert for Thane, Mumbai, and Ratnagiri. Raigad will remain on an orange alert until July 21, while Palghar and Thane have alerts in effect until today, July 20. The Palghar district collector has also issued a warning, urging residents to stay indoors.
In Mumbai, due to the predicted severe rains in various regions, all public and private schools will remain closed today. The IMD has issued an orange alert for certain areas in Mumbai for the day. The heavy rainfall in the city and its surroundings has caused disruptions in some local transportation routes.
CM Eknath Shinde visited the Disaster Management Department at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters to assess the situation after the torrential rains hit Mumbai and its neighboring areas.
Additionally, on July 20 and 21, the IMD has issued a warning for extremely heavy rain in various districts of the state of Telangana. Nirmal, Nizamabad, Sangareddy, Rajanna Sircilla, Jagtial, Adilabad, Jayashankar, Bhupalpally, Warangal, Mulugu, and other districts may experience significant rainfall, according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS).
