Schools In Delhi, Uttar Pradesh Opens After Extended Summer Vacation

The summer vacations for students in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi have finally come to an end as both private and government schools resume their academic activities today. Like several other states, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh had extended their summer vacations due to heatwaves. In Uttar Pradesh, the schools were initially scheduled to open on June 27, but the decision was deferred and extended till July 3, 2023, in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. This extension was made to protect the students from the adverse conditions of heatwaves and rising temperatures, following the previous year's experience.
Before reopening, it is mandated that the schools in Uttar Pradesh ensure appropriate cleanliness of restrooms, access to drinking water, and proper sitting arrangements for children. The responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in accredited schools managed by the UP Basic Education Council lies with the School Management Committee. Teachers have also been advised to complete all essential tasks, such as arranging mid-day meals, handling Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) related tasks, distributing textbooks, and other necessary errands before the reopening of schools.
Starting from July 5 to July 31, the Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a special campaign to inspect schools in the state. The inspection will focus on basic amenities such as clean drinking water, mid-day meals, toilets for children, and overall academic activities. Additionally, inspections will be conducted in council schools, madrasas, and aided schools. During the summer break, elementary school children were encouraged to continue their studies and complete summer homework using the Diksha App.
It is worth noting that the Meteorological Department had issued a yellow alert in Uttar Pradesh due to the expected extreme heatwaves in many parts of the state.
