Schools, Colleges In Mandi To Stay Shut Tomorrow As Heavy Rainfall Continues In Himachal

The government of Mandi district has issued an order for the closure of all schools and institutions on July 10 due to continuous rainfall and flash floods in various areas of Himachal Pradesh. According to a tweet from ANI, Arindam Chaudhary, the Deputy Commissioner of Mandi, has announced a temporary closure of schools and higher education institutions in the region. The tweet states, "Himachal Pradesh | All schools and colleges in Mandi will remain closed tomorrow due to ongoing heavy rain in the district: Arindam Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner Mandi." This decision has been made in response to the current weather conditions and the need to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The Meteorological Department station in Himachal Pradesh has issued a yellow alert for excessive rainfall, thundershowers, and lightning in remote areas of the plains and hills until July 9. The forecast predicts heavy rainfall across the state until July 11, with a potential risk of flash floods in watersheds in the districts of Shimla, Mandi, Sirmaur, and Solan. Another statement from the meteorological department mentions that secluded areas in the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Una, Hamirpur, and Bilaspur may experience severe torrential rains today due to the ongoing Western Disturbance.
Reports indicate that approximately ten houses in the Haroli region have been damaged by the flash floods in Himachal Pradesh. Social media footage that went viral showed a car being washed away in the flooded area. In light of the situation, schools and higher education institutions in several districts of Kerala were also instructed to close on July 5 due to prolonged rainfall and red alerts in the districts of Idukki and Kannur earlier in the week. The districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kasaragod have been placed on an orange alert.
Furthermore, the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), Kannur University, and Mahatma Gandhi University have announced the postponement of all examinations scheduled for July 5 due to the severe rainfall in the region. These measures have been taken to prioritize the safety and well-being of the students and faculty members.
