Punjab Govt to Release Rs 49 Crore for Construction of Hostels at Panjab University

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that the state government will soon allocate approximately Rs 49 crore for the development of educational infrastructure at Panjab University (PU). During his visit to the university, Mann assured the construction of a modern boys' hostel and the expansion of the existing girls' hostel. These initiatives are designed to meet the future needs of the students while creating a conducive environment for learning.

The plan involves adding five new floors to the current two-storey building of the girls' hostel, while a six-storey boys' hostel will also be constructed on the campus. The primary objective is to enable students to concentrate on their studies without worrying about accommodation costs outside the university premises. The decision to construct these hostels came after numerous appeals from the staff, students, and senate members.

Mann emphasized the Punjab government's commitment to the overall development of Panjab University, given its affiliation with 175 colleges across the state. He expressed pride in the fact that many MLAs from his party have also been alumni of the university.

The new hostels will offer modern amenities such as a dining hall, common rooms, and well-maintained washrooms. Notably, the washroom facilities will be improved with one bathroom for every four rooms instead of the previous ratio of one bathroom for every six rooms. Additionally, 38 rooms will be constructed with attached bathrooms to cater specifically to research scholars and other residents.

The upcoming developments aim to foster an environment conducive to academic growth, ensuring that students can focus on their studies without any accommodation-related burdens.
