After a rise in H3N2 cases in Puducherry, schools were closed for 11 days. However, on Monday, they reopened. The State Education minister, S. Namassivayam, had declared a holiday for classes up to 8th grade in government, aided, and private schools in the Puducherry, Karaikkal, Yanam, and Mahe regions of the territory.
This was due to the increasing number of H3N2 influenza cases. The government had taken additional precautions and made elaborate arrangements to prevent any further outbreak of the disease. Although the territory had reported a rise in H3N2 influenza cases, no deaths were reported. Schools are now back in session.
