Pradhan Launches Initiative to Train 2.5 Lakh Youth in Industry Relevant Skills in North-East Region
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in collaboration with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has introduced a special program titled 'Empowering Futures: Skill Development and Entrepreneurship' in the Northeastern region of India. This initiative aims to equip 250,000 young individuals with industry-relevant skill training through various schemes including Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS). The launch event was graced by G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Culture, Tourism & Development Of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
This comprehensive effort includes training for 200,000 individuals under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), engaging 30,000 apprentices through the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and skilling 20,000 individuals under Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS). It also encompasses quality enhancement of ITIs through the skill strengthening for industrial value enhancement (STRIVE) program, bolstering polytechnics, implementing special projects under SANKALP to address the unique needs of the North-East region, and establishing the Skill India International Centre to facilitate overseas job opportunities.
Dharmendra Pradhan remarked, "India is making remarkable strides toward becoming a global skill hub. I am particularly proud to witness the North-East region seizing emerging opportunities. Our primary objective is to eliminate unemployment and drive India towards self-reliance, as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Our continuous efforts are geared towards not only imparting employability skills but also nurturing a resilient entrepreneurial mindset among the youth of the North-East. Through unwavering dedication, we are crafting a future where the youth of this region can thrive. The launch of these skill-focused initiatives, as a part of the special package for the North-East, promises to be a transformative and life-changing endeavor."
He further expressed, "I am delighted to introduce this specialized skill development and entrepreneurship program for the North-Eastern states. This initiative will revolutionize lives and better prepare the younger generation of these states. A strong emphasis on skill development is crucial to realizing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India. With a holistic governmental approach, we are enhancing the capabilities of our youth and aspiring to position India as the global skill leader."
To support comprehensive development, nurture entrepreneurial potential, and drive socio-economic progress in the region, the government has allocated 360 crores, as outlined in the official press release. Vocational education and skill development initiatives will cater to the demand for skilled professionals in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, handicrafts, and information technology.
