Pondicherry University to Implement NEP from This Academic Year: VC Gurmeet Singh

Pondicherry University's Vice-Chancellor, Gurmeet Singh, announced that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will be introduced across all departments and affiliated colleges starting this academic year. Speaking to the media at the university campus, he highlighted the NEP's diverse aspects, focusing on "education for empowerment" and "skill development." Notably, the policy respects individuals' freedom to learn languages, refraining from imposing any specific language.

The NEP aims to foster holistic development, nurturing both cognitive and physical skills in students. Encouraging a multi-disciplinary approach, it promotes students' exploration of various subjects to develop robust competencies. Additionally, the policy emphasizes integrating vocational education with the general stream.

To facilitate greater flexibility for students, the university has proposed the implementation of an 'academic bank of credit' in all its colleges starting from the current academic year (2023-2024). This system would allow students to pause their studies and resume them later, offering more convenience and adaptability.

However, Gurmeet Singh expressed concern over the inadequate allocation of funds to the university for the current academic year. He stated that the university requires more financial support to effectively execute its proposed initiatives.
