In a landmark move towards transparency and efficiency, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has decided to leverage data from the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) portal for the assessment of medical colleges. This initiative aims to eliminate manual interference and ensure the authenticity of attendance records, marking a significant departure from traditional inspection methods.

Key Highlights:

  1. Shift from Physical Inspections: The NMC will transition from conventional physical inspections to utilizing data from the AEBAS portal for assessing medical colleges. This move is intended to streamline the assessment process and minimize discrepancies.

  2. Verification through Surprise Inspections: While relying on AEBAS data for routine assessments, the NMC will conduct surprise inspections to verify the accuracy of the uploaded data and assess the physical infrastructure of medical colleges.

  3. Combatting Ghost Faculty: To address the issue of ghost faculty and enhance accountability, the NMC has been utilizing the AEBAS portal for over a year. The portal records attendance of medical students and faculty, ensuring adherence to attendance norms.

  4. Attendance Criteria: Colleges will be evaluated based on a minimum of 75% attendance of working days over a two-month period. This criterion aims to gauge compliance with attendance regulations more effectively.

  5. Online Redressal Portal: The NMC is set to launch an online portal where medical colleges can appeal for compliance-related redressal. This portal will streamline the grievance resolution process, enhancing efficiency and transparency.

  6. Guidelines for Postgraduate Courses: The NMC issued guidelines prohibiting faculty from engaging in private practice during college hours to address the issue of ghost faculty. Additionally, minimum attendance and occupancy criteria for hospital beds have been stipulated to maintain quality standards.
