Evaluation Criteria:

Institutions are assessed based on several criteria, each with specific weightage:

  • Teaching, Learning, and Resources: 30%
  • Research and Professional Practice: 30%
  • Graduation Outcomes: 20%
  • Outreach and Inclusivity: 10%
  • Perception: 10%

Highlights from Last Year:

  • Overall Category: IIT Madras secured the top spot, followed by IISc Bengaluru and IIT Delhi.
  • Universities Category: IISc Bengaluru was ranked first, with JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia following.
  • Colleges Category: Miranda House led the rankings.
  • Medical Category: AIIMS Delhi was ranked first.

In 2023, the top 100 higher education institutions (HEIs) in the ‘Overall’ category included:

  • 7 Central Universities
  • 24 Deemed-to-be Universities
  • 7 Private Universities
  • 26 State Universities
  • 36 INIs (IITs, NITs)

The number of applications for the rankings increased to 8,686 from 7,254 in 2022. The NIRF, introduced by the Narendra Modi-led government in 2016, now evaluates institutions across thirteen categories, up from four in 2016.
