According to a senior official from the school education department, students in state-run schools in Mizoram have started wearing a common uniform from the beginning of the new academic session on Wednesday. The director of the school education department, Lalsangliana, stated that specifications for the uniform had been notified separately for primary, middle, high school, and higher secondary schools.

The state education minister, Lalchhandama Ralte, had previously explained that the purpose of the common uniform was to promote equality between rich and poor students in both urban and rural areas.

Additionally, the introduction of the uniform would eliminate the need for students in government schools to purchase new uniforms when their parents are transferred to other locations.
