Karnataka School Headmaster Urges Salon to Avoid 'Hebbuli-Style' Haircuts for Students

The concerned headmaster of a government school in north Karnataka has garnered significant attention and appreciation from teachers and parents for his earnest request. Shivaji Naik, the school's headmaster, noticed a troubling trend among the students, with many of them imitating actor Sudeep's 'Hebbuli-style' haircut from the popular Kannada film "Hebbuli," released six years ago. This trendy hairstyle remained a favorite among students and young adults in Karnataka.

Worried about the impressionable age of the students and their increasing focus on emulating movie stars rather than concentrating on their studies, Naik took decisive action. He penned a letter to the local salon owner, appealing to him not to provide such haircuts to the students. In the letter, which was reported by the Times of India, Naik explained the detrimental impact of this fashion trend on the students' academic interests and achievements. He urged the salon owner to trim the students' hair in a more regulated manner and to inform the school or parents if any student requested a "filmi" haircut.

To arrive at this decision, the headmaster consulted with the school development and monitoring committee, parents, and faculty members, considering their valuable suggestions. Surprisingly, the salon owner, Channappa Siddaramappa, responded positively to the headmaster's plea, agreeing to discontinue offering the 'Hebbuli-style' and filmy haircuts to the students. This initiative aimed to instill discipline among the adolescent students and refocus their attention on their studies.

Naik shared with the Times of India that the school had been performing well in board examinations, with a significant rise in girls' pass percentages over the years. However, there was a noticeable decrease in boys' performance. A deeper investigation revealed that boys were being influenced by TV shows, films, and fashion trends, which were negatively impacting their academic achievements.

In conclusion, the headmaster's proactive approach and collaboration with stakeholders led to a positive outcome, promoting a more conducive learning environment for the students and encouraging them to prioritize their studies over fleeting fashion trends.
