Karnataka government makes reading of Constitution's preamble mandatory in schools, colleges

In a recent decision, the Karnataka cabinet has unanimously agreed to enforce a new mandate requiring all schools and colleges, regardless of whether they are government-funded, aided, or private, to read the Preamble of the Constitution on a daily basis. Additionally, the cabinet has made it obligatory for government and semi-government offices across the state to prominently display a portrait of the Preamble of the Constitution.
Emphasizing the significance of this decision, Social Welfare Minister HC Mahadevappa highlighted the importance of understanding the freedom struggle and the fundamental principles underlying the Constitution. Minister Mahadevappa stressed that students and young individuals attending educational institutions, irrespective of their affiliation, should actively engage with the Preamble as it serves to inspire the youth in contributing towards nation-building and fostering harmony among all communities.
He further emphasized that with such an exceptional Constitution in place, it is essential for the youth to acquaint themselves with its preamble on a daily basis. Consequently, Minister Mahadevappa urged all government and semi-government offices to prominently display a portrait of the Preamble to reinforce its significance.
