Karnataka High Court's Initial Decision: Initially, the Karnataka High Court had granted permission for the state government to conduct board exams for classes 5, 8, and 9. However, this decision was challenged by the association of unaided schools, leading to a stay on the government's order.

Supreme Court's Intervention: Subsequently, the state government appealed this decision, asserting that the delay caused by the injunction disrupted the exam schedule. However, the Supreme Court upheld the stay, leading to the deferment of the exams. The case has now been referred to a division bench for further consideration.

Impact on Exam Schedule: While exams for class 11 had already been conducted as per the original schedule, the deferment of exams for classes 5, 8, and 9 has caused a significant disruption. Meanwhile, the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has released the schedule for classes 10 and 12.

Exam Schedule for Classes 10 and 12:

  • The second PU exams began on March 11 and will conclude on March 22, 2024.
  • The SSLC exams are scheduled to take place between March 25, 2024, and April 6, 2024.

Key Figures:

  • Over 6.9 lakh candidates have registered for the second pre-university (PU) exam this year.
  • Approximately 8.9 lakh students have registered for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams.
  • The KSEAB has designated 1,124 examination centres across the state for the second PU exam and 2,747 centres for the SSLC examination.
