A group of students from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) are currently staging a protest due to their alleged failure to be assigned hostel rooms, despite being in their second semester. As a result, they have been forced to reside in rented accommodations, and have initiated a sit-in at the Dean of Students' office since Monday. The protesting students have vowed to continue their demonstration until their demands are met, with no response yet from the JNU administration.

The JNU Students' Union has also released a statement, citing the students' concerns about the delayed handover of the new Barak Hostel. The construction of the hostel is managed by a private company, which has allegedly failed to pay workers and supervisors on time, leading to a delay in its completion. In addition to this, the students have also requested immediate hostel accommodations for all women students, allowing the conversion of the women-only dorm, Narmada, into temporary lodgings for men. However, these requests have been delayed due to bureaucratic reasons.

The protesting students have demanded a meeting with JNU Vice-Chancellor Santishree D Pandit to address their grievances. The situation remains ongoing, with no resolution in sight at present.
