JEE Advanced 2023: Students From Chandigarh’s TriCity Shine in JEE Advanced; Raghav Goel Tops With AIR 4

In this year's Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced, an intensely competitive entrance exam for esteemed engineering institutes in India, four students from the Tri-City area of Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula have achieved remarkable success by securing positions within the top 100. Raghav Goel, a resident of Chandigarh, has emerged as the leading candidate in the Tri-City, attaining an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 4. Raghav, consistently showcasing his academic brilliance, now sets his sights on pursuing a career in computer science at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.
Moreover, Raghav has been chosen to represent India in the upcoming International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2023) scheduled to take place in Tokyo next month. Additionally, he has qualified for the Indian Chemistry Olympiad 2023 (INChO 2023) and the Indian Mathematics Olympiad 2023 (INMO 2023). His exceptional performance in the NCERT-conducted NTSE (Stage II) examination has earned him the prestigious NTSE Scholarship. It is noteworthy that Raghav had previously secured the top position in the city during the JEE Main exam, attaining an impressive AIR of 20 in April. He happens to be the younger brother of Pranav Goel, the 2018 JEE topper who secured AIR 1.
Sharing his thoughts on his success, Raghav emphasizes the significance of cultivating a genuine interest in the subjects one studies. In an interview with the Indian Express, he states, "I firmly believe that having a keen interest in what you study is of utmost importance. With my passion for mathematics and computers, I aspire to innovate and create something new." He also advises future aspirants to prioritize a thorough understanding of the subject matter and master the fundamental concepts before delving into complex problem-solving.
Raghav's father, Pankaj Goyal, holds a BTech degree from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, and currently manages a pharmaceutical company based in Panchkula. His mother is a co-owner of the same company. Throughout his educational journey, Raghav has received invaluable mentorship from his grandfather, a former physics professor, who has been a guiding force in his academic pursuits.
Securing the second position in the Tri-City is Kamyak Channa, originating from Dhakoli, Mohali, with an impressive AIR of 21. Kamyak also shares the ambition of pursuing a computer science degree from IIT Bombay. Aryan Chugh from Chandigarh clinched the third position in the Tri-City, achieving an AIR of 56. Meanwhile, Moulik Jindal secured the fourth position with an AIR of 75. Jindal has showcased his proficiency by qualifying in various other Olympiads, including NSEP (Physics), NSEC (Chemistry), NSEA (Astronomy), and pre-qualifying in the IOQM (Mathematics Olympiad).
