HP 10th, 12th Board Exams To Be Held Annually, Term System Discontinued

In a significant development, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, has granted approval for the reintroduction of the annual assessment system for students in classes 10 and 12. This decision applies to schools affiliated with the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, allowing these students to undertake their yearly exams once instead of the previous biannual format. The Chief Minister emphasized that the earlier term system had proven to be disadvantageous as it restricted students' revision time, considering they had to prepare for two separate examinations.
A notable amount of time was consumed in conducting and evaluating the exams, imposing an additional financial burden on the students who had to pay exam fees twice. Furthermore, Himachal Pradesh, with its geographical diversity, experiences variations in teaching days due to different weather-dependent holiday patterns across its regions. In light of this, neighboring states such as Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) already follow the annual assessment system.
Taking all these factors into consideration, the decision was made to discard the term system and reinstate the annual system in Himachal Pradesh, as stated by Sukhu. The state government is actively committed to enhancing various domains within the education system to ensure accessible and high-quality education for all students.
