What is E Shram Card and Its Purpose

The E Shram initiative, launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment under the Government of India, aims to create a comprehensive national database for unorganized workers. Its primary goal is to facilitate the distribution of welfare benefits and social security measures to these workers across the country. The platform is designed to register unorganized workers and provide them with identification cards, enabling easier access to various government schemes, benefits, and services.

Who Qualifies as an Unorganized Worker?

An unorganized worker is defined as anyone engaged in home-based work, self-employed, or employed in the unorganized sector who is not a member of ESIC or EPFO. This includes establishments that engage in the production or sale of goods/services and employ fewer than ten workers. These establishments are not covered under ESIC and EPFO. There are no income criteria for registration as an unorganized worker on the E Shram portal, and applicants should not be income tax payers. The age of the applicant must be between 16 and 59 years. A dedicated national helpline has been established for inquiries related to E Shram registration and complaints, reachable at toll-free numbers 14434 or 18008896811.
