Holiday for Schools, Colleges in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi Districts Today Due to Heavy Rains

The authorities of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts in Karnataka, India, have announced the closure of schools and colleges on Thursday due to an orange alert issued by the Meteorology Department. This alert indicates a forecast of heavy rainfall and strong winds. In their official statement, the district authorities have specified that all anganwadi centers, primary and high schools, undergraduate colleges, as well as government-aided and private schools within the districts will remain closed on Thursday.
Parents have been urged to exercise caution and ensure that their children do not venture into areas prone to flooding such as low-lying regions, lakes, rivers, or the seashore. Additionally, fishermen have been advised against going out to sea during this period. The district-level and taluk-level officials have been instructed to remain vigilant and be prepared for potential rescue and relief operations if required. They have also been directed to promptly address any public complaints and maintain communication with the control room at the respective deputy commissioners' offices.
To ensure public safety, tourists and the general public have been advised to refrain from visiting rivers and seashores during this time. An orange alert signifies the expectation of very heavy rainfall, ranging from 6 cm to 20 cm. This alert level is one step below a red alert, which denotes the most severe rainfall intensity.
