Police are currently investigating the death of a 17-year-old JEE aspirant who reportedly hanged himself in his hostel room. The family of the deceased claimed that he had been harassed at his coaching institute. According to Circle Inspector Paramjeet Patel from Mahaveer Nagar police station, the boy, identified as Bahadur Singh, had recently been involved in a scuffle with another student at the coaching institute, resulting in his expulsion. However, the allegations of harassment against the institute are yet to be investigated. In his suicide note recovered from the room, the boy did not mention any harassment by the coaching institute. Instead, he stated that he had been suffering from a severe skin disease for two years, which had deeply affected him emotionally. The police have registered a case under section 174 of CrPC to determine the cause of death and have handed over the body to the family after conducting a postmortem. Upon arriving in Kota, the deceased's brother, Jai Bhim Singh, accused the coaching institute's faculty of harassing his brother and claimed that the expulsion had led to his depression. The coaching institute has not responded to inquiries regarding the allegations. Authorities have reported that this incident marks the fifteenth case of suspected suicide among students attending this coaching hub this year. Singh, who hailed from Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh, had been in Kota for over two months, preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). According to Patel, the boy allegedly hanged himself on Friday night in his hostel room. The previous year witnessed the tragic deaths of at least 15 coaching students by suicide. Kota is home to over 2.25 lakh students attending various coaching centers in the city, aiming to crack entrance exams for medical and engineering colleges. Despite efforts by government and non-government organizations, suicide cases among students continue to rise.
