Academic Council Meeting Led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh

The decision was made under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh during the Academic Council meeting. Before discussing the agenda, members extensively deliberated on various issues and presented their thoughts and suggestions. Notably, a proposal has been sent to the UGC for the establishment of a Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair, pending approval.

Introduction of Russian Language at UG Level

Another major development is the introduction of Russian language studies at the undergraduate level within Delhi University. This initiative, based on UGC guidelines from 2022, has been approved under the Department of Slavonic and Finno-Ugrian Studies. Prof. Yogesh Singh highlighted that this marks the first time undergraduate-level Russian programs will be offered at DU, starting from the academic session 2024-2025.

Faculty Appointments in Delhi Government-Funded Colleges

In a move to enhance educational standards, Prof. Yogesh Singh announced that Delhi University will initiate the recruitment process for faculty positions across 12 colleges funded by the Delhi government. All colleges are expected to issue advertisements for vacant positions by July 31, 2024. Additionally, a committee comprising three members nominated by the Academic Council will oversee the prioritization of teachers at DU and its affiliated colleges.

Enhancing Forensic Science Education

Students pursuing MSC Forensic Science will now have the opportunity to visit crime scenes through police stations. This addition to the fourth-semester curriculum of MSC Forensic Science, as recommended by the Department of Human Sciences, has been approved by the Academic Council. The program will include visits to police stations instead of crime scenes/courts/SPSL/UPC-221511403 as part of the curriculum.

Concurrent Pursuit of Two Degrees

The Academic Council has also approved the feasibility of students simultaneously pursuing two degrees. Under this provision, one degree can be pursued in regular mode at the University's colleges or departments, while the other can be pursued in open and distance learning mode at the School of Open Learning, Campus of Open Learning.

Initial Phase and Universalization of this Provision

After implementing this provision within the university system, experiences will be taken into account for effective universalization. Various rules and conditions will be included to enhance this decision's effectiveness.
