Delhi Schools in Areas Bordering Yamuna to Remain Closed Till Tomorrow

The Directorate of Education (DoE) announced on Sunday that all government and private schools located in areas adjacent to the Yamuna river in Delhi will be closed on July 17 and 18. This decision comes as parts of Delhi have experienced severe flooding due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas of the Yamuna river, leading to the evacuation of numerous individuals from low-lying regions. In light of the ongoing flood relief camps operating in schools situated near the Yamuna river, the DoE has directed the closure of all schools in the affected districts, namely East, North East, North West-A, North, Central, and South East, during July 17 and 18.

To ensure uninterrupted education, flood-affected schools have been advised to organize online classes. However, schools in the remaining DoE districts, namely North West-B, West-A, West-B, South, South West-A, South West-B, and New Delhi, will remain open as per the circular. In these seven districts, the school administrators have the flexibility to conduct classes in either physical or hybrid mode (combining offline and online), depending on the convenience of their students. It is essential for the heads of schools in these districts to inform parents about their decision well in advance.

The circular further states that all schools across all districts will resume normal operations from Wednesday onwards. As of Sunday, the water level in the Yamuna river was measured at 205.98 meters, a decrease from its peak of 208.66 meters recorded at 8 pm on Thursday.
