The Department of Education (DoE) has released new guidelines to address concerns regarding the denial of admissions to students in classes 9 and 10 in Delhi's government and government-aided schools. The circular, issued on Wednesday, emphasizes that no student should be refused admission if they have been allotted a school under the Non-Plan Admission process, as long as there are no discrepancies in their documents. This step comes after reports surfaced that some students were denied admission due to missing Aadhaar or bank account details.

Key Guidelines for the Non-Plan Admission Process:

  • Admission for Children Up to Class 8: The Right to Education Act (RTE) mandates that students up to class eight must be admitted throughout the academic session in age-appropriate classes.
  • No Barriers Due to Missing Documents: The absence of an Aadhaar card or a bank account should not prevent students from gaining admission.
  • Finalizing Admission by September 16, 2024: For students allocated schools in previous Non-Plan Admission cycles, the admission process must be completed by this date.

Age-Appropriate Class Criteria:

  • No Age Restrictions for Recent Students: Students who completed their previous class during the 2023-24 academic year from a recognized school or board are exempt from age-appropriate class requirements.
  • Mid-Term Transfers Discouraged: While mid-term transfers are generally not encouraged after examinations, they are permitted in genuine cases, subject to approval by the Zonal or District Grievance Redressal Committee.
