Dean of Pune-based Medical College Held for Taking Rs 10 Lakh Bribe for MBBS Admission

Once again, on Tuesday, the dean of the medical college operated by a trust under the Pune civic body was apprehended for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 10 lakhs in exchange for a guaranteed MBBS seat. This incident was reported by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The individual in question has been identified as Ashish Bangirwar, who serves as the dean of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College. The college falls under the administration of the Pune Municipal Corporation Medical Education Trust.

According to the ACB, the complainant's son was granted a seat through the institutional quota during the initial round of admissions. However, in order to proceed with the admission process, the dean purportedly demanded a bribe of Rs 16 lakhs in addition to the government-mandated fees of Rs 22.50 lakhs. Allegedly, this bribe was requested from a parent to ensure his child's enrollment in the MBBS program. Subsequently, the concerned individual contacted the ACB and simultaneously informed the dean that he would make an initial payment of Rs 10 lakhs.

In response, a trap was set, leading to Bangirwar's arrest when he accepted the sum of Rs 10 lakhs on Tuesday. The ACB revealed that a case has been registered under the applicable sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and a comprehensive investigation is presently in progress.
