Chandigarh University Ranked Number 1 Private University in India in the QS World University Ranking 2024

Chandigarh University (CU) has achieved a remarkable feat by securing the top position among India's private universities in the latest edition of the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking, which was released on Wednesday, June 28. In the QS WUR-2024 evaluation, which assessed 2,963 institutions, Chandigarh University has climbed up the ladder with an overall rank of 771-780. This is a significant improvement from its previous rank of 801-1001 in the previous edition of the rankings released last year. The university has achieved an impressive overall score of 15.2 in this year's ranking.
The QS rankings, in its 20th edition, feature 45 Indian universities, and Chandigarh University has secured the 20th position among all public and private institutes in India. Furthermore, the university has also secured the 233rd spot in the Asian rankings. Alongside Chandigarh University's rise as the top-ranked private university in India, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has emerged as the number one ranked Indian public institute in this year's QS World University Rankings 2024.
Chandigarh University has consistently made significant strides in various rankings. Earlier this year, the university made a notable debut in the QS World University Subject Rankings 2023, ranking 1st in India in the field of Hospitality Management, 11th in the field of Engineering and Technology, Computer Science and Information Systems, 12th in Mechanical Engineering, and 16th in Business and Management Studies. The university also achieved the 27th rank in India's top universities in the recently released NIRF Rankings 2023. Last year, Chandigarh University became the youngest university to feature in the Top 200 QS Asia University Rankings 2023.
The QS ranking indicators reveal the university's strong performance. Notably, Chandigarh University ranks second among Indian universities in terms of international students and international faculty, while securing the sixth position in employer reputation. The employer reputation indicator takes into account the employability of graduates and the institution's reputation among employers. The university stands at the 16th spot in India in terms of academic reputation and at the 13th spot in faculty-student ratio, according to the QS ranking.
Among private universities in the country, Chandigarh University holds the number one position in employer reputation and is ranked second in academic reputation. In sustainability, the university holds the sixth rank.
Chandigarh University has shown improvement in its scores across various parameters in the rankings. The score for employer reputation has increased to 43.4 this year, compared to 31.8 in the previous edition. The score for international faculty ratio has risen to 34.1, while the faculty-student ratio score has increased to 21.1, compared to 24.6 and 18.7 respectively in the previous year. The university's score for academic reputation has also jumped to 11.5 this year, compared to 8.6 last year. Similarly, the score for international student ratio has increased to 15.1 from 11.2 last year.
CU Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu expressed his satisfaction with this achievement and highlighted the university's commitment to excellence in academia and research led by its faculty and students. He emphasized that these rankings motivate the university to provide quality education and set new benchmarks in higher education. Satnam Singh Sandhu further mentioned that the university's vision and mission are to nurture young minds, equip them with essential skills and values, and prepare them to lead the country in various fields. He expressed gratitude to the students and faculty for their continuous efforts and pledged to maintain the momentum and strive for further improvements in the coming years.
