An Education Department official reported on Tuesday that a female assistant teacher in Bihar's Khagaria district has been receiving a salary for the past five months while residing in Gujarat. The discovery was made when the Block Education Officer, Ram Uday Mahto, visited the government primary school in ward number 4 and discovered that the teacher, Seema Kumari, had been absent for several months. Seema Kumari was assigned to this school on deputation. Upon further inquiry with the department, it was revealed that the department had been releasing her monthly salary based on attendance reports submitted by the headmaster of her original middle school in Bhadas village. Headmaster Vikas Kumar of the school had converted Seema Kumari's absentee attendance into attendance, based on which the department was issuing her salary from September 2022. The report was subsequently sent to the District Education Officer, recommending the cessation of the salaries of both Seema Kumari and Vikas Kumar, which the department has implemented. According to sources, over 400 teachers are currently under scrutiny by the Education Department for using the deputation scheme to receive salaries without actually attending school.
