Assam Registers Nearly 6 Per Cent Decline In School Enrolment
According to Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, there has been a decrease of 5.95 percent in school enrolment in Assam. This year, a total of 70,95,759 students have registered, compared to 75,44,956 students in 2022-23. The Student Database Management Information System (SDMIS) indicates a shortfall of 4,49,197 students compared to the previous year.
Minister Pegu informed reporters that officials have been instructed to investigate and analyze the reasons behind this decline in enrolment. Some of the reasons mentioned by district officials include students seeking admission in unregistered private schools not listed on the UDISE portal, the removal of duplicate enrolments from the database, and migration.
