The state has achieved a historic feat of establishing four new medical colleges in just one year, which Sarma considers a significant accomplishment for Assam. Sarma announced the news on Twitter, expressing his delight and calling it a milestone. State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta stated that the approval of the Nalbari Medical College has raised the number of MBBS seats in the state to 1,500.

The Assam government aims to establish a total of 24 medical colleges in the state by 2026.
