According to the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Jagadesh Kumar, universities have been urged to allow students to write their exams in local languages, even if the course is taught in English medium. The commission recognizes the significant role of higher education institutions in preparing textbooks and facilitating the teaching-learning process in the mother tongue/local languages.

.To this end, the commission emphasized the need to promote initiatives such as writing textbooks and translating standard books from other languages into the mother tongue/local languages, and encouraging their use in teaching. As such, the commission has requested that universities permit students to write exam answers in local languages, even if the program is taught in English medium, and promote the use of local languages in teaching and learning processes, including translating original writing into local languages.
