All Primary School Students In Tamil Nadu To Get Free Breakfast

The Tamil Nadu school education department is set to appoint coordinators to expand the free breakfast scheme to all primary schools in the state. Officials from the department have stated that a coordinator will be assigned to each educational district. The programme, which is a flagship initiative of the DMK government led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, will be overseen by district education officers (elementary).

The department has requested details on the number of primary school students in each school, and teachers and school heads have been directed to participate in the programme to ensure that every primary school student in the state receives breakfast. The project aims to cover 30,122 primary schools, benefiting 18 lakh students, and the state government has allocated Rs. 500 crore for this project in the recent budget. It's worth noting that Chief Minister Stalin inaugurated the free breakfast scheme for primary school students on September 14, 2022, at Adhimoolam primary school in Madurai.

The scheme was first launched in 1,545 primary schools at a cost of Rs. 33.56 crore, benefiting 1.14 lakh students in the initial phase. The success of the first phase has prompted the government to extend the project to all government primary schools in the state.
