Successful Implementations

Several prominent institutions, such as the College of Nursing, CMC Vellore, and St. John College of Nursing, SJMCH, Bangalore, have successfully implemented a similar model. These implementations have demonstrated the potential to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, elevate nursing standards, and efficiently utilize nursing staff across various roles within the healthcare sector.

AIIMS Delhi's Initiative

In light of the success of these implementations, AIIMS Delhi has proactively decided to explore the adoption of the Integrated Nursing Education and Service Model. To assess the feasibility and modalities of this implementation, the institute has formed a dedicated committee comprising key stakeholders. Dr. M Srinivas, the director of AIIMS Delhi, emphasized the importance of this model and its potential benefits.

Committee's Responsibilities

The committee's terms of reference include reviewing the Indian Nursing Council's notification on the Integration of Nursing Education and Service (Dual Role). It will also examine the experiences and outcomes of institutions that have already adopted a similar model. The committee will assess the advantages and challenges of implementing this model at AIIMS Delhi and formulate a comprehensive proposal for its integration within the institute's framework.

Recommendations and Timeline

The committee is tasked with submitting its recommendations by November 30, 2023. Dr. Rima Dada, the professor in charge of the media cell, highlighted the groundbreaking nature of this model and its potential to enhance nursing care quality, improve clinical skills, and optimize the utilization of nursing staff in both academic and clinical settings.
