Bilateral Educational Endeavors

Simultaneously, numerous universities from the UK are also looking to establish branch campuses in India. These institutions are actively working on formulating a regulatory framework with the University Grants Commission (UGC) to facilitate their presence in India. The UK government is in the process of clearing regulatory hurdles to enable UK universities to set up campuses in India.

Fostering Collaborative Relationships

Steve Smith, the International Education Champion of the UK government, highlighted that ongoing discussions were taking place between the governments and relevant authorities of both nations regarding the establishment of IIT campuses in the UK. He emphasized the significance of this potential collaboration as a symbol of the mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries. He expressed the UK's openness to hosting IITs or other top Indian institutions, underlining the genuine two-way nature of the partnership.

Key Delegation Visit

The official leading the delegation visited India for the India-UK Higher Education Conference, organized by the British Council on September 18 and 19 in Delhi. The delegation's purpose was to engage with key stakeholders and foster discussions on internationalizing higher education institutions through partnerships, dual-degree programs, and research collaborations.

Global Expansion of IITs

Two of India's premier IITs have already initiated agreements with foreign nations to establish offshore campuses. IIT Madras is in the process of setting up its campus in Tanzania's Zanzibar, while IIT Delhi is venturing into an offshore campus in Abu Dhabi. These initiatives reflect India's growing influence in the international education landscape.
