Its scope will also include educational institutions across the country producing teachers. At present, the government is making big preparations to improve the quality of these institutions. Poor or low quality teacher education institutions are bound to be locked down. Teachers are not skilled in many subjects

The government has started this exercise at a time when even after a lot of efforts at the level of school education, the quality is not showing as expected. Teachers are also believed to be a big reason for this. At present, most of the teachers are such, who are not proficient in those subjects including mathematics and science, on the basis of which the quality of school education is judged.

Improving quality is not possible without better teachers

Recently, in the National Achievement Survey-2021 conducted in schools across the country, the learning ability of students was assessed on subjects like Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Environmental Science and English. The survey was conducted among the students of class 3rd, 5th, 8th and 10th. These included both government and private schools. The government believes that unless better teachers come in schools, the expected improvement in quality is not possible.

Initiative to start Integrated B.Ed course

According to a senior official associated with the Ministry of Education, an initiative has been taken to start a four-year integrated BEd course in the direction of preparing better teachers. Courses like B.Sc-B.Ed, B.A.-B.Ed and B.Com-B.Ed will be started. This will not only prepare dedicated teachers for teaching, but will also become expert teachers in subjects like science and maths, commerce.

The quality of institutions will also be tested

Along with this, the quality of existing institutions providing teacher education across the country will also be tested. In these, along with infrastructure, the level of adequate faculty will also be checked. At present, a large number of teacher education institutions are running like this. After the preparation of the report, all the institutions running in the same situation will be closed.


Recommendation for rapid improvement in teaching education

The ministry is preparing to close all these institutions in a time bound manner. The special thing is that the National Policy on Education (NEP) has also recommended rapid reforms in teaching education on the basis of the report of Justice Verma Commission.
