Good news for PhD students! Now you can do doctoral studies with a job

Employment News-There is good news for the candidates who want to do PhD with the job. According to higher education regulator officials, universities in India will now be able to start part-time doctoral programs for job seekers, provided they attend regular classes for at least six months. This provision will be a part of the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations, 2022, which will be notified by the Ministry of Education soon. University Grants Commission (UGC) officials gave this information on Saturday.

Please note that these changes will be applicable from the next academic session. With this change, candidates will be able to pursue a part-time PhD program, although they will have to fulfill the conditions of a full-time PhD program. The special thing is that the evaluation of part-time PhD program will be done in the same way as for full-time PhD. It is to be noted that candidates applying for part-time PhD will not be eligible for PhD fellowship.

NOC certificate to be given
For doing part time PhD, candidates will have to do six months course work. For this, the candidates will also have to submit the No Objection Certificate (NOC) received from their institute. Applicants for a part-time PhD must provide an NOC from their organizations stating that the employee is allowed to study on a part-time basis, allowing the employee sufficient time for research. Notably, the Commission is also doing away with the mandatory requirement of publishing research papers in peer-reviewed journals for submission of PhD thesis.
