Aims to connect education with community outside school boundaries - Sisodia

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday held an important meeting with education officers on two important education projects of the Delhi government - Youth for Education and Parental Engagement Program. After discussing the achievements of the pilot phase of these two programs in the meeting, important points were discussed for the future.
While discussing the Youth for Education programme, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that when we look at how education is imparted in high performing countries abroad, we find that one to one mapping is practiced there. It is very important to understand the one to one mapping of each child and their individual profile. But doing one-to-one mapping of 16 lakh children studying in government schools of Delhi is a big challenge but we have converted this challenge into an opportunity, the mission of Youth for Education Program and Parent Outreach Program is to make our children one-to-one. To do one-to-one mapping and connect the community with the school.

Similarly, the parent outreach program aims to build a network of school management committee members and 'school friends' to help other parents and better connect the community to schools. So far 560 SMC members and 41 school heads have been trained in this programme.

He said that through the Youth for Education programme, the children studying in our schools would get better guidance and counseling from the younger generation. Under this program, every educated youth in the age group of 20-30 who is doing graduation, doing job, doing his business. Our school can give guidance to the students and help them to improve their career. In the pilot phase of Youth for Education, we have added 650 mentors who have guided 4000 children and they are all very happy. Through this program the mentors have also become emotionally attached to our children as elder siblings.

Talking about the parent outreach programme, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the parent outreach program is designed to establish a better communication channel between our schools, children and parents. So that not only students get involved in school and community activities through these channels but also better contact with their parents can also be made through these channels. By which the whole community can be connected with the school.

Presently, the Youth for Education program is conducted in 46 schools in East and South-East Delhi with 650 mentors and 4000 mentors. Delhi government aims to engage more than 2 lakh mentors in this program who will guide 5.5 lakh children studying in 9th to 12th standard.
