215 HP School Students Cleared NEET, but Cong Govt Closing Edu Institutions: Jai Ram Thakur

Jai Ram Thakur, the Leader of Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, has urged Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to reconsider the closure of educational institutions in the state. Thakur pointed out that despite 215 students from government schools successfully clearing the NEET exam in 2023, the current administration is shutting down these institutions. He expressed his concern over the contradictory approach of the government, as it claims to be making the state drug-free while simultaneously closing down schools and anganwadis, while opening liquor vends.

Thakur emphasized that Himachal Pradesh is a hilly state with challenging terrain, and in order to ensure quality education for all students, especially those in remote and far-flung areas, it is essential to establish more educational institutions. However, he criticized the recent decision of the government to de-notify two degree colleges in Bilaspur and Solan districts, which had been operational since 2021. Thakur, who previously served as the chief minister, expressed his disappointment regarding the reversal of decisions made by the previous BJP government in Himachal Pradesh, considering it to be "unfortunate and regressive." He urged the current regime to adopt a positive attitude and reconsider these decisions.

Meanwhile, Karan Nanda, the state BJP media co-in-charge, led a mass contact program in the Chaura Maidan area of Shimla. During the program, he informed residents about the achievements of the Modi government. Nanda highlighted the "big gift" bestowed upon Shimla by the Union government in the form of the Shimla Smart City project. He mentioned that projects worth Rs 2,900 crore are being implemented under this initiative, and a recent release of Rs 34.57 crore would help expedite the progress of these projects.
