The West Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd, popularly known as Purabi Dairy came into existence in 1976 through Anand pattern co-operative infrastructure and by establishing a symbiotic relationship between milk producers, techno professionals, marketing people and the consumers. PURABI is the leading brand in dairying in North East India .Not many people know the relationship between the West Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd and PURABI. The Liquid Milk Plant of the Milk Union with processing capacity of 60000 litres milk per day was commissioned in 1989 and the Milk Union started marketing of pasteurized, homogenized Tonned Milk in poly pouch enlarging its market share.The Double Toned milk was introduced on 27th of February, 1991. In the mean while, the Union has been continuously adding of varieties of milk and milk products under its brand PURABI.Purabi covers various milk variants and milk products such as Smart milk, Standard Milk, Ghee, Paneer, Fresh Cream, Lassi, Flavored Milk, Plain Curd and Sweet Curd in various packed sizes. And the market will also see some more milk variants and milk products under the brand PURABI. To consumers, PURABI means milk and milk products – delicious, delightful, pure, fresh and tasty! No wonder PURABI aspires to be ‘AMUL of Assam’ as aptly said by the Telegraph in its 21st July, 2003 issue under the caption “A mascot for Amul wannabe”.
