This year, an unprecedented 273,183 candidates have signed up for the NEET PG examination, reflecting a growth of over 12.5% from the previous year. The exam is scheduled for August 30 and will take place in a single shift.

Exam Details and Logistics

The NEET PG 2026 exam preparations are nearing completion, with the test set to occur in a single shift on August 30 across around 340 cities and more than 1,300 centers nationwide. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has introduced significant changes aimed at enhancing the exam's security, transparency, and overall candidate experience.

Single Shift Examination for Uniform Evaluation

In line with directives from the Supreme Court, this year's NEET PG exam will be conducted in a single shift to ensure consistent evaluation for all participants. The exam will be computer-based, and the number of testing centers has been expanded to facilitate candidates taking the exam closer to their locations.

Caution Against Rumors and Paper Leak Claims

During a review meeting on August 1, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda discussed the preparations for the exam. He emphasized the importance of conducting the exam in a fair, secure, and transparent manner, utilizing advanced technology. Candidates were urged to disregard any rumors or false claims regarding paper leaks, as the question paper is generated through a secure and encrypted process just prior to the exam. Candidates should rely on official communications from the NBEMS and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

New Measures for Candidate Convenience

This year, several new measures have been introduced to streamline the examination process. Candidates can select three preferred states for their exam centers during the application phase. The exam city information will be disclosed on August 1, and admit cards will be available for download starting August 27. The question paper will feature 180 questions, with a total duration of 210 minutes for completion. An Aadhaar-based verification system will be utilized for both the application and examination processes, with iris biometric verification available if necessary. Additional security measures, including multi-layer frisking, biometric checks, CCTV monitoring, real-time oversight, and technical audits, will be enforced at the examination venues.
