GATE 2027 Schedule Changes
GATE 2027 Update: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has announced modifications to the GATE 2027 timeline. The online application process is set to begin on August 27, 2026. This examination is organized collaboratively by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the IITs, under the auspices of the National Coordination Board, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.
As per the revised timeline, the regular registration deadline has been extended from September 21 to September 27, 2026. Additionally, candidates can register with late fees until October 5, 2026, instead of the previous deadline of September 30.
**Revised Exam Schedule**
The GATE 2027 examination will now span six days: February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027, an increase from the previous four-day schedule. City allotment details will be available on January 4, 2027, and results are expected to be announced on March 19, 2027. Other important dates, including the application correction window, remain unchanged.
**Number of Papers in GATE**
The GATE 2027 will feature 30 different test papers. Candidates are permitted to take one or two papers from the allowed combinations. A new paper titled ‘Robotics and Automation’ (RA) has been added this year. Furthermore, IIT Madras has made syllabus updates for various papers, including changes to the ‘Textile Engineering and Fibre Science’ paper and the sectional codes for ‘Engineering Sciences’, ‘Humanities and Social Sciences’, and ‘Life Sciences’.
**Utilization of GATE Scores**
A valid GATE score can be used for admission into Master’s and Doctoral programs across various fields such as Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities at recognized institutions. Additionally, numerous Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) consider GATE scores for their recruitment processes. According to the official GATE 2027 portal, the score is valid for three years from the date of result declaration.
