Data Breach Alert: JEE Advanced 2026 Results Expose Student Information
Concerns Arise Over JEE Advanced 2026 Data Leak
Following the announcement of the JEE Advanced 2026 results, alarming reports have surfaced regarding the unauthorized exposure of students' personal information from the examination portal. IIT Roorkee has confirmed the occurrence of this data breach affecting candidates' details.
The JEE Advanced 2026 data leak comes on the heels of ongoing controversies surrounding the NEET paper leak case. IIT Roorkee has acknowledged that the breach involved candidates' records and admit card documents, attributing the issue to a misconfiguration in their cloud storage system. The institute is actively working to resolve the problem.
Discovery of the Data Leak
The breach was first highlighted by a user on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), who revealed that a public cloud storage instance associated with the JEE Advanced 2026 results was improperly configured, allowing unrestricted access. Reports indicate that this compromised storage contained around 179,600 result records and approximately 187,300 admit card PDFs. Cybersecurity experts have noted that the leaked information included candidates' names, birth dates, and mobile numbers. Screenshots shared online displayed sensitive data related to admit cards and results, with one image revealing multiple documents containing personal details.
IIT Roorkee's Response
In response to the situation, IIT Roorkee expressed gratitude to the researchers for highlighting the issue and confirmed that it was indeed linked to a cloud storage device. The institute assured that rectification efforts are being prioritized. They clarified that the data was in a read-only format, indicating that no modifications could be made to it. The institute commended the responsible actions of those who reported the breach.
Recent Results Announcement
Earlier this week, IIT Roorkee released the results for JEE Advanced 2026, which is crucial for admissions into undergraduate programs at IITs. However, the institute has yet to provide details on how long the data was vulnerable or whether affected candidates will receive notifications.
