CBSE Launches Science Challenge for Students in Classes 8-10
Introduction to the Science Challenge
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is excited to announce a new initiative called the 'Science Challenge' for the academic year 2026-27. This competition is designed for students in classes 8, 9, and 10 from CBSE-affiliated institutions. The goal is to inspire a passion for science while enhancing critical thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities among participants. Importantly, there is no fee required for students to enter.
Registration Details
As per the CBSE guidelines, schools can register for the first phase of the competition from October 14 to October 30, 2026. Students must go through their schools for registration, as individual applications are not permitted. Schools can log into the designated portal (https://cbseacad.it.nic.in/sc/) using their credentials to register the number of students participating. It is advisable for students to consult their science teachers or school administration to ensure timely registration.
First Phase Examination Schedule
The initial phase of the Science Challenge will take place in schools from November 2 to November 13, 2026. On November 2, registered schools will receive a question paper featuring multiple-choice questions along with evaluation instructions. Students will have 60 minutes to complete the test, and success will depend on both the accuracy of their answers and the speed of their responses. Schools are expected to conduct the examination fairly, ensuring equal time for all participants.
Eligibility for the Second Phase
Following the first phase, each school will select two students from classes VIII, IX, and X based on their performance. This means that a total of six students can be nominated for the second phase from each eligible school. Registration for the second phase will occur from November 17 to November 25, 2026. The selection will consider both the correctness of answers and the time taken to complete the questions. In case of a tie, preference will be given to the student who completed the questions more quickly.
Second Phase Examination Details
The second phase of the competition will be conducted online and is tentatively scheduled for a date between November 30 and December 4, 2026. The exact date and further instructions will be provided to the schools later. Participants in this phase will receive an online participation certificate from the Board, while those who excel will earn a certificate of appreciation. Students are encouraged to focus on fundamental scientific principles, logical reasoning, and problem-solving speed in preparation for the competition. For additional details, schools can refer to the official CBSE circular.
