CBSE Clarifies Class 12 Results and Evaluation System

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a statement addressing the ongoing controversy regarding the Class 12 results and the On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation method. In defense of the digital marking system, CBSE emphasized that the OSM approach promotes transparency and fairness in the grading process. This response follows widespread concerns expressed on social media by students, parents, and educators about unexpectedly low scores in subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. Some students reported that despite passing competitive exams like the JEE, they did not succeed in the CBSE Board examinations.

In its official communication shared on social media, CBSE reiterated that the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system was implemented to enhance the transparency of the evaluation process. The Board stated that this digital assessment method ensures that students receive marks accurately on a step-by-step basis, significantly reducing the chances of manual errors during grading.

This year, the pass percentage for CBSE Class 12 examinations fell to 85.2%, marking the lowest rate in the past seven years. The Board's criteria for passing clearly indicate that students must achieve at least 33% in both theory and practical exams to pass a subject.

**Availability of Scanned Answer Sheets Starting May 19**

CBSE has announced that the re-evaluation process for Class 12 results will begin on May 26. Students who believe their scores are lower than anticipated must first request photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets. After reviewing these copies, they can then apply for mark verification or re-evaluation. To obtain scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets, students are required to pay a fee of ₹700 per subject. Applications for this service can be submitted from May 19 to May 22.

Re-evaluation Process Set to Start on May 26

The Board has advised students to complete the necessary procedures within the official timeline and pay the required application fees. The verification or re-evaluation of answer scripts will take place from May 26 to May 29. For answer verification, students must pay ₹500 per script, while the re-evaluation fee is ₹100 per question.

CBSE has also assured that any errors found during the re-evaluation will be corrected. According to CBSE examination regulations, if a student fails in one subject, they may qualify for a compartment examination, provided they meet the other passing criteria.
