Reopening of Council Schools in Uttar Pradesh

The council schools in Uttar Pradesh are scheduled to resume classes on July 1. Due to the extreme heat and ongoing heatwave, Anil Kumar, the District Basic Education Officer (BSA) of Prayagraj, has released essential guidelines. He has emphasized the importance of prioritizing the health and safety of students for all Block Education Officers (BEOs), headmasters, teachers, and parents.

BSA Anil Kumar has advised students to take extra precautions while traveling to and from school. He suggested that children wear light-colored, full-coverage clothing when going outside. Additionally, he recommended the use of umbrellas, hats, and sunglasses to shield against the harsh sun and hot winds.

**Guidelines for Keeping Children Safe from Heat**

The BSA highlighted the necessity for children to stay hydrated during the hot season. He encouraged a higher consumption of cool water, lemonade, buttermilk, coconut water, and other nutritious drinks to avoid dehydration and mitigate the risk of heatstroke.

Furthermore, he instructed school administrations and parents to implement measures such as curtains to block direct sunlight at home, school, and workplaces. Special attention should be given to children, the elderly, and those with health issues. Immediate medical assistance should be sought at the nearest hospital if anyone shows signs of heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

**Recommendations to Minimize Heat Exposure**

Anil Kumar advised against unnecessary outings between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM, the hottest part of the day. He cautioned against walking barefoot or exposing skin to the sun. Additionally, he recommended avoiding stale food and meals high in protein. The BSA also stressed that children and pets should never be left alone in vehicles parked in the sun. He advised against wearing dark or bright clothing and suggested avoiding tight or revealing outfits. Lastly, he urged people to refrain from consuming alcohol, tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, and engaging in strenuous activities during extreme heat.
