Inspiring Journey of Priti Kumari: From Teacher to SDM
Priti Kumari's Inspirational Story
Priti Kumari from Darbhanga, Bihar, serves as an inspiration for women who often set aside their career aspirations after marriage and motherhood. Balancing family responsibilities, she prioritized her goals. While working as a teacher, she continued to prepare for competitive exams. Although her first attempt ended in disappointment, she maintained her faith in hard work and tried again.
Her journey to success was fraught with challenges. Juggling time between home and work, maintaining consistency in studies, and caring for her young daughter became part of her daily routine. Nevertheless, she never wavered in her preparation for the BPSC exams. Ultimately, she achieved her dream of becoming an SDM by securing the 166th rank in the 70th Combined Competitive Examination. Her story illustrates that with proper planning and persistent effort, one can reach their goals even within limited time.
Educational Journey Began at Navodaya Vidyalaya
Priti hails from Darbhanga district, where her father, Nand Kishore Prasad, is a teacher at Navodaya Vidyalaya, and her mother, Anita Kumari, is a homemaker. The family placed a high value on education. Priti completed her early education at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Darbhanga, finishing her schooling there.
Higher Education from Bhubaneswar to Delhi
After completing her 12th grade, Priti pursued her B.Sc. and B.Ed. at a regional college in Bhubaneswar. She then moved to Delhi for further studies, earning her MSc in Life Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Following her academic journey, she secured a teaching position at Navodaya Vidyalaya, where she taught for nearly three years, also working at a government school in Delhi.
Continuing Aspirations After Marriage
In 2023, while working as a teacher, Priti married Saroj Kumar from Muzaffarpur. Post-marriage, her family responsibilities increased, but she did not abandon her dream of becoming an administrative officer. Whenever she found time amidst her busy schedule, she dedicated herself to preparing for the BPSC exams.
Initial Setback and Resilience
In her first attempt at the BPSC, Priti passed the preliminary exam but fell short in the main exam. Although this was disheartening, she viewed it as a stepping stone rather than an endpoint. She identified her preparation gaps and resumed her studies, now balancing job, family, and motherhood.
Interviewing with Her Baby in Arms
During her second attempt at the 70th Combined Competitive Examination, Priti arrived for her interview with her six-month-old daughter in her arms. Despite this, her confidence and preparation remained strong. She achieved the 166th rank and was selected for the SDM position. In an interview following her success, she emphasized that success in competitive exams is not solely about long hours of study; effective use of available time and consistency are equally crucial.
