Important Update for MBBS and BDS Aspirants

Students looking to enroll in MBBS and BDS programs in Uttar Pradesh have received crucial news. The Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME) has been instructed to redo the first round of online counseling for UP NEET UG 2026. As a result, the seat allotment results announced on September 7 have been revoked. This decision stems from a ruling by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on September 16. Below, we explore the implications of this ruling and the updated schedule.

**Consequences of Counseling Cancellation**

This ruling will impact a significant number of students. Approximately 170,000 candidates from Uttar Pradesh qualified for NEET UG 2026 and are eligible for MBBS and BDS seats under the state quota. Out of these, around 34,000 candidates had signed up for the initial counseling round.

**Revised Schedule Details**

The DGME has released a new timeline for the counseling process. The online choice-filling and locking phase began on September 18 at 5:00 PM and will continue until September 21 at 5:00 PM. The results for seat allotment will be announced on September 22.

Candidates who receive a seat allocation will be able to download their allotment letters and finalize their admission from September 23 to September 26.

**Merit List Remains Unchanged**

It is important to note that the original merit list remains intact. The counseling will utilize this merit list; however, seat allotment will only be available to those candidates who complete the choice-filling and locking process again within the designated period.

This updated schedule applies to MBBS and BDS state quota seats across all government and private medical and dental colleges, as well as medical universities in Uttar Pradesh. The DGME has confirmed that all other rules and conditions regarding the counseling process will remain unchanged.
