Exciting news has emerged for postgraduate students as the University Grants Commission (UGC) gears up to roll out financial support through the National Scholarship for Postgraduate Studies (NSPG) initiative. This program will offer eligible students an annual scholarship of ₹1.5 lakh for a duration of two years. The application process is set to begin shortly on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The UGC encourages students and educational institutions to prepare the necessary documentation in advance to prevent any mistakes during the application process.

Application Process Details

The application procedure will be conducted via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), with specific dates to be announced soon. Only students who are enrolled in the first year of a full-time postgraduate program at an accredited university or college will be eligible for benefits under this scheme. Additionally, applicants must be under the age of 30. The UGC has mandated that all universities and colleges ensure their nodal officers verify, approve, or reject applications within 15 days of receipt, allowing students ample time to correct any errors before the portal closes.

The UGC has advised students to frequently check the official portal, scholarships.gov.in. It is crucial for applicants to have their Aadhaar card, academic certificates, bank account information, and other vital documents ready prior to applying, as incomplete or incorrect submissions may lead to rejection.

Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme

In addition, the UGC has announced that applications for the Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme, aimed at students from the North-Eastern states, will also commence soon. This scheme offers financial assistance ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹80,000 annually, depending on the course of study. The scholarship is available for a period of three to five years. To be eligible, students must have completed Class 12 in the North-Eastern region, be enrolled in the first year of a regular undergraduate program, and have a family income not exceeding ₹4.5 lakh annually.
