The Central Government has initiated various programs aimed at supporting students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their education. One notable program is the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS), which aims to provide financial support to talented students who might otherwise leave school due to financial difficulties. Applications for the academic year 2026-27 are currently being accepted, managed by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education.

Students who meet the eligibility criteria can submit their applications online through the National Scholarship Portal, with the application deadline set for August 31, 2026.

Financial Support for Students in Classes 9 to 12

The NMMSS scheme primarily seeks to motivate students to continue their education beyond Class 8 and aims to decrease the dropout rates. Students currently in Class 9 can apply for this scholarship for the first time. Those enrolled in government, government-aided, and local body schools are eligible to apply.

Additionally, students in Classes 10 to 12 who are already beneficiaries of this scholarship can renew their applications as per the established guidelines. Selected candidates will receive an annual scholarship of ₹12,000 from Class 9 through Class 12.

To apply, visit the official National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. New applicants should register by selecting 'New Registration'. After registration, log in using your user ID and password, and choose the NMMSS scheme.

Fill out the application form with the necessary personal and academic information. Upload the required documents and double-check all entered details. Once everything is verified, submit the application and keep a copy of the receipt or printout for future reference. Ensure that the application is completed before the August 31 deadline.
