Delhi EWS Admission Process Overview

Delhi EWS Admission: On Monday, the Directorate of Education in Delhi conducted a computerized lottery for admissions under the EWS/DG and CWSN categories. This draw was specifically for Nursery, KG, and Class 1 placements in private schools for the academic year 2026-27. Following the event, Delhi's Education Minister, Ashish Sood, emphasized the government's dedication to providing every eligible child in the state with fair access to quality education.

Improvements in Application Process

Ashish Sood highlighted that this year, robust measures have been implemented to prevent duplicate and incorrect applications through advanced technical solutions, including software developed by the NIC and Aadhaar-based verification (Encrypted Aadhaar Seeding). As a result, more genuine applicants have been able to secure admission opportunities.

Increase in Schools and Seats

The Education Minister announced a notable rise in the total number of available seats this year. The application process has also been streamlined for greater transparency. Compared to the previous academic session (2025–26), the number of participating schools increased from 2,219 to 2,308. In the EWS/DG category, seats rose from 44,045 to 48,092, while the CWSN category saw an increase from 6,471 to 7,609. Overall, the total number of seats available has grown from 50,516 to 55,701, marking an increase of 5,185 seats. This year, the Education Department received 139,524 applications, with 138,536 being fully completed in the EWS/DG category. In the CWSN category, completed applications rose from 904 to 988.

Immediate School Allotment Post-Draw

According to Sood, the draw was executed transparently, aided by a PowerPoint presentation. A significant highlight was that parents participated in the draw, enhancing their trust in the process. Schools were assigned to children immediately after the draw, and the process has been refined since last year. Now, parents' documents are verified via mobile devices, eliminating the need for multiple school visits. The next phases of the admission process are set to begin within three days, ensuring a smooth admission experience for selected students.

Addressing Past Issues with Applications

Sood revealed that during the 2024–25 academic year, under the Aam Aadmi Party government, a staggering 240,084 applications were submitted for EWS, DG, and CWSN admissions. This indicated a high level of duplication, with over 100,000 applications identified as duplicates, representing about 75% of the total applications.

Decline in Applications for 'CM Shri' Schools

He further noted that the educational landscape in Delhi has improved, leading to a decrease in applicants across all categories. This decline is attributed to children enrolling in 'CM Shri' schools established by the Delhi government, reflecting positive changes and renewed trust among parents in government schools.
