In a significant victory, Yash Dabas from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has been elected as the new president of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) for 2026. Throughout the counting process, which saw various shifts, Dabas managed to defeat NSUI's Vijay Shankar Meena. His success can be attributed to a robust strategy, a strong grassroots presence, and a commitment to his promises.

From International Tennis to Student Politics

Before venturing into student politics, Yash Dabas represented India on the tennis court. He has been a professional player, competing in ITF tournaments held in Spain, Australia, and Serbia. Additionally, he showcased his talent in events like 'Khelo India', CBSE Nationals, and All India University Games. The discipline and fighting spirit he gained from sports played a crucial role in his electoral success.

Educational Background and Journey with ABVP

Hailing from Kanjhawala in North West Delhi, Yash Dabas graduated from the prestigious Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College at Delhi University and is currently pursuing an LLB from Campus Law Centre (CLC). He is also working towards a master's degree in Buddhist Studies. For the past six years, he has been an active member of ABVP, consistently addressing student issues on campus.

Following his candidacy announcement, opponents circulated an alleged mark sheet to question his academic credentials. Both ABVP and Dabas labeled this as a smear campaign aimed at gaining electoral advantage. Many students at Delhi University dismissed the controversy, expressing their trust in his leadership.
