West Bengal School Service Commission Releases Merit List for Assistant Teachers
WBSSC Merit List Announcement
WBSSC Merit List: The West Bengal School Service Commission has officially released the merit list for the recruitment of 12,445 assistant teachers for classes 11 and 12 in state-aided schools. Interviews are scheduled to take place in Kolkata on January 27-28, in Jhargram on January 28-29, and in Jalpaiguri on January 29-30.
The WBSSC conducted the second State Level Selection Test (SLST) in September for hiring assistant teachers for secondary and higher secondary classes. There are a total of 23,212 vacancies for secondary classes, with 12,445 positions allocated for the higher secondary section.
The merit list for secondary classes (9th and 10th) was released on November 24, followed by the final list of candidates who passed the interviews on December 12.
Details of the Merit List
The recently published merit list includes 12,445 names, along with a waiting list of around 6,000 candidates. Notably, many teachers whose appointments were annulled by a Supreme Court ruling on April 3 last year have secured positions on the merit list.
Rupa Karmakar, a representative of the Deserving Teachers Forum, expressed her satisfaction at being listed among both the secondary and higher secondary merit lists, while noting that several of her 'innocent' colleagues were placed on the waiting list. She stated, "We hope that the WBSSC will review their cases, as we have all suffered due to institutional corruption."
A WBSSC official confirmed that most of the 'innocent' candidates who participated in the recruitment examination in September 2025 have been included in both merit lists.
He added, "All processes are being conducted transparently in accordance with the court's directives."
